Tour with your Cheap Car Hire in Madrid

Cosmopolitan Madrid lies high on an elevated plain at the very heart of Spain. This buzzy, vibrant modern capital offers visitors fantastic opportunities for shopping, nightlife and culture and is home to some of the finest  museums in Europe. The old town is very atmospheric, blending medieval architecture with lavish Bourbon palaces around the historic Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol and the Palace Real. Mixed in with  a warren of narrow streets filled with tile-lined tapas bars and old fashioned restaurants serving the classic local stew, cocido madrileno. The Puerta del Sol is the city's transport hub, and the gateway to the lively nightlife neighbourhoods of Chueca and Malasana, and to the south are the rapidly changing La Latina and Lavapies districts. The Retiro Park is an an important part of the life of Madrilenos. Within walking distance you will find  museums such as the Prado Museo which contains more masterpieces than any other museum in the world including works by Goya, El Greco and Velazquez. Visit Museo National Reina Sofia which contains the famous Guernica by Picasso and it's the most visited individual work of art in Spain. The best way to explore the surroundings is by renting a car.

myCarHire can provide you with a cheap car hire in Madrid so that you can make your way around the town and nearby attractions on the Mainland. During your holiday in Madrid, enjoy these fun excursions:

  • Aranjuez - Listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, a green oasis set on the banks of the languid Rio Tajo. It is well known for the Palacio Real de Aranjuez, a residence of the King of Spain with huge gardens, patios and squares offering an abundance of places to relax and unwind. The town of Aranjuez is famous for its strawberries!

  • El Escorial - The Monasterio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial is the last resting place for nearly every Spanish monarch. Quite apart from its political pedigree, it's also an architectural triumph and its collections of objects and antiques are impressive. The highlight is the Basilica, with 42 altars and an enormous altarpiece, El Cristo Blanco (1556-57) by Benenuto Cellini.

  • Segovia - Now an icon of Spain, Segovia's aqueduct is still standing virtually intact some 2,000 years after it was built. The Alcazar was extensively rebuilt in the 19th century as a Gothic fantasy and has to be seen first-hand both inside and out to be appreciated. In addition, Segovia is home to a wealth of smaller gems such as the Cathedral of St. Mary, a great stone temple built upon the highest point of the city. The speciality dish that Segovia is famous for is cochinillo asado (suckling pig) .

  • Toledo - The walled city is built on top of a hill, surrounded on three sides by the Tajo (Tagus) river, and overlooks the Castilian plains. The older part of the city is easy to wander around and at a real push you see most of the major sights in a day.  Visit the impressive cathedral and several sights associated with the great 16th- century painter El Greco who spent much of his life here.

Madrid Airport

Weather in Madrid

Madrid has a continental climate distinguished by extremes: July and August are extremely hot when temperatures can reach over 40ºC/163ºF. The chilly and short winter between December and February surprises most visitors.
